Welcome to the Roosevelt Middle School Newcomer Team!

We are excited to introduce the Newcomer Team at Roosevelt Middle School, dedicated to providing a supportive and successful transition for our students who are new to the country and/or new to learning English.

Our Dedicated Support System

Our team is composed of caring professionals committed to ensuring every newcomer student feels welcomed, understood, and academically challenged:

Newcomer Teachers: Specialists in language acquisition and cultural adjustment who provide specialized learning opportunities tailored to meet the unique educational needs of students who are new to the U.S. school system.
Newcomer Social Worker: A dedicated resource focused on the social and emotional well-being of our students and their families. They help connect families with essential school and community resources, ensuring a holistic support network.

Specialized Learning Opportunities

We understand the specific challenges newcomer students face, and we have designed our program to accelerate both English language fluency and academic achievement. These opportunities include:

Targeted English Language Development (ELD) instruction to quickly build conversational and academic English skills.
Grade-level content instruction that is scaffolded and accessible, helping students master core subjects while they learn English.
Orientation and cultural integration activities to help students navigate their new school and community environment.

Our goal is to create a nurturing environment where every newcomer student can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. We look forward to partnering with our newcomer students and families!
